Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
I have been around horses for as long as I can remember, and one of the most meaningful relationships of my teenage years was with my horse, Goldie. Through him, I learned trust, confidence, and communication. At times, it felt as though he understood me better than anyone else. I have had the privilege of working with many other spectacular horses over the years, and each one has shown me the unique healing power of the human-horse connection.
Today, Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) allows me to combine my passion for horses with my commitment to supporting people on their journeys toward healing and growth.
Using the Eagala Model, an evidence-based approach to mental health treatment, clients work alongside a licensed mental health professional, an equine specialist, and horses in a collaborative therapeutic setting. Sessions are entirely ground-based—no riding is involved—and focus on experiential activities that promote self-awareness, emotional regulation, communication, trust, and healthy relationships.
Because horses naturally respond to human emotions and behaviors, they offer immediate, honest, and nonjudgmental feedback. Through interactions with the horses and guided reflection, clients often gain valuable insight, build resilience and confidence, and develop healthier ways of coping and connecting with others.
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy can benefit children, adolescents, adults, families, and groups experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and other emotional or developmental concerns.
Sessions take place in an arena or pasture and are facilitated by both a licensed mental health professional and an equine specialist, creating a safe, supportive, and meaningful therapeutic experience.
